Diamond prices from Ramat Gan Israel
In our last blog we gave you the diddy, or “lowdown,” about the diamond
market in Hong Kong. However, we are now in Ramar gan buying diamonds and
antique diamonds for our web site Artdecodiamonds.com
Lets give a little lesson about the diamond exchange, or bursar, as
they call it in Ramat Gan Israel. The bursar in Israel has taken over
number 1 exchange over New York. The bursar in Israel is the first stop
for all of our friends from the far east. Instead of them coming to NYC
they come to Israel, and the place is sizzling.
Lets start with the diamonds artdecodiamonds.com needs most. This
would be the modern and antique cushion cut diamonds. They are
buy. The prices for cushion cuts are so strong, due to such high demand.
Cushion cut diamonds are bringing prices similar to round diamond
prices. Asscher cut and princess cut diamonds are very stong today as
well. And, to a lesser extent pear shape and radiant cuts seem to be a
Round diamond prices are still strong but have lessened a little bit
due to the weakness of the european and american markets, and of
course our friends from the Far east.
So what will happen to the prices of diamonds? Will fancy cuts
(especially antique diamonds) stay strong? Will round diamonds get
stonger or weaker? These are the big questions and, of course, we will
stay tuned and answer them!
The Lowdown about Hong Kong show and the diamond show!
Since our traveling is done for the month, and with Bozz Scaggs
playing in NYC this week (hopefully singing my favorite song
“Lowdown”), I want to give you the “Lowdown” about Hong Kong and the
European markets. Let me begin with the lowdown about Hong Kong.
My sources tell me that the Hong Kong show was slow. Prices for
diamonds are still extremely strong. As we have stated before, with the
European market in a state of flux and the American market slow, the
trading for this sector of the world is slow. But since the supply of
VS2-I1 diamonds is very low, the prices are staying strong.
In the past few years with the American market slow, we have turned
to our friends in the Far east to try to pull us out of these doldrums.
However, that didn’t happen. Usually our friends from India are strong
buyers, but with their currency being devalued by 20 percent they are
certainly not buying.
Next we turn to our old dependable Chinese market. With the
slowdown in their market and real estate in a state of flux they were
As we have mentioned previously, friends in the Arab countries are
back and buying Fancy colors, especially Canary diamonds. So, in
fact, Canary diamond prices are rising.
So right now the world is in a state of flux. Supply is low,
demand is down, but the prices still stay very strong. Our next blog
will be from Israel and the world famous diamond exchange in Ramat
Gan.. see you then!
Las Vegas Antique Trade Show
Well, time is flying, and it is that time of the year again. You may be
asking what time of the year it is? Well, it’s the Las Vegas antique
and JCK jewelry shows. Trade shows, especially the big
las vegas shows, are so important for 2 reasons. We try to buy antique
jewelry and diamonds at these shows (sorry wholesale
only) and we get a sense of where the diamond and antique jewelry
business is going. Let’s take a look:
1) diamond prices and antique jewelry, especially antique engagement
rings, are very strong. In Las Vegas we will see how the supply of
antique jewelry and diamonds is doing. If the supply is low, prices
will be strong. We suspect that this will be the case.
2) Who are the buyers? Are our friends from the far east (specifically
china, india and the Arab countries) going to be buying? What’s happened
to the european and american markets?
The diamond and antique jewelry business is now a global market and
changes are always in the works. By going to the Las vegas shows we can
answer our 2 main questions and see where the business will be in the
upcomong year. We will see you after las vegas!
Looks like we made it! We made it home from the miami antique show and what a show it! Here are our thoughts…
Not surprisingly, the supply of antique and art deco jewelry was lacking, especially pristine antique engagement rings. The amount of people that came out for the show proved everyone wants antiques! What that means for the dealers (and more specifically the antique shoppers) is the less antique jewelry, prices will still stay high. How about diamonds?
Diamonds are still very strong, but we did notice that our friends from the far east, specifically China and India, were in short supply. This means diamonds specifically purchased for the far east have softened a bit. How about diamonds for the united states? For example, the SI1 and SI2 type diamonds? Well, unfortunately those diamonds are in low supply so they have stayed strong.
We were satisfied with the miami show. Please take a look at our site, www.artdecodiamonds.com in the next few weeks, as we will have about 50 to 100 more antique and art deco engagement rings.
We Will See You in a Few!
This is our last blog before we leave for the Miami antique show. We thought it would be appropriate to blog about something very important to us, not antique engagement rings or diamonds, but the march of the NY Giants to the super bowl!
You ask, why should a diamond/antique jewelry site want to blog about the ny giants? Well, we are so impressed with the Giants, especially Tom Couglin and his coaching staff. When the giants were in the midst of a 4 game losing streak, everyone wanted to fire Coughlin. Instead of changing his philosophy about football and life, he stuck to his beliefs and held the giants together. Wouldn’t you know it, the giants started to believe as well, and now they’re one step away from winning a super bowl.
At artdecodiamonds.com we have the same philosophy. We buy fantastic quality diamonds and gorgeous art deco jewelry. We keep on buying and selling jewelry and diamonds and the quality always remains, after the price has long been forgotten. We will continue the blog after the Miami show.
Antique Diamond News
Well the small miami antique show happened and, as I suspected, we had some good moments, and some not so good moments.
Let me explain:
As I touched upon in our last post, the global world diamond market is going through some changes. The far east market (specifically India), has slowed down considerably, which should halt the rise in prices…at least temporarily. China’s market has also slowed a bit, but they are still showing tremendous buying power with items such as watches, diamonds and art deco jewelry. We will have to wait and see how that plays out.
So, how does this decrease effect the U.S. market? For one, it should stop the rise in diamond prices which would give the U.S. consumers a much needed break. However, when prices tend to stop rising the world markets hold back their supplies in order to keep prices from falling. Our big question is, how are the art deco jewelry and antique engagement ring prices? The prices are still very strong and holding. Pristine antique engagement rings are still very hard to find and are in demand. We also see china’s interest in antique jewelry rising. It seems like everyone wants art deco jewelry and antique engagement rings. I guess old is hot! With demand high and supply short, the prices for antique engagement rings, art deco jewelry and antique jewelry are holding.
Look for our next blog, who’s wearing antique jewelry and why.
